Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships

Supporting Scholarship

Each year, the Haynes Lindley Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships award $26,000 to Phd candidates enrolled at universities in the five-county Los Angeles region. These fellowships support doctoral students conducting research into public policy or pursuing historical studies relevant to greater Los Angeles.

Applicants must have an approved dissertation proposal and be working under the guidance of a faculty advisor. Awards support dissertation research over a defined fellowship period typically one year.
Grants are typically awarded to support archival preservation, organization, and accessibility. Archival grants have no set amount, but generally range between $40,000–$60,000 for up to one year.
